Sightseeing tour of Colombo with shopping in Old Bazaars and visits to the Museum, City Hall and Independence Square . Also see the Old Dutch Church and Belfry, a Buddhist Temple and many picturesque Mosques. Other sights could include an ancient Hindu Kovil, or visit the Parliament and zoological gardens.
Drive through terraced paddy fields and coconut plantations to the ancient capital of Kandy . Optional visits to Pasyala Modal Village and Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage. In Kandy visit the Botanical Gardens, Temple of the Tooth ot take the scenic Upper Lake Drive or simply lunch and shop in Udwattekele.
Enjoy a full day tour of the historic port of Galle . This charming city has a strong colonial past with both the Dutch and the Portuguese leaving their mark. The 90 acre Dutch fort is the main attraction with its lighthouse, towering ramparts and colonial buildings. Other attractions include a visit to a turtle hatchery and a traditional mask museum and factory.
Travel to Hikkaduwa and visit a Mask Factory or Batik Factory enroute, even stop off at the Turtle hatchery by the beach! In Hikkaduwa see the Coral Reef by glass bottom boat with ramparts and relax with some lunch and shopping.
Recognised by UNESCO as part of its international network of bio-sphere reserves, the Sinharaja is a World Heritage Site, the most extensive area of rainforest remaining on the island. It has one of the highest levels of bio-diversity in the world. Most of Sri Lanka ‘s endemic species of plants and animals are found here. Enjoy a day exploring this natural paradise.
Leave after breakfast for the City of Gems via Avissawella and Eheliyagoda. Ratnapura houses the worlds richest treasure of rare sparkling precious and semi precious stones. In the afternoon walk the city’s narrow streets with it’s many jewel shops. Later visit the gem pits, mines and the Gem Museum . In the evening return to Colombo .
